Abstract

|
The lung volume and its subdivisions, and index of intrapulmonary gas mixing were measured in 74 smokers and 37 nonsmokers. There were no significant differences in mean of these parameters between smokers and nonsmokers. In addition, the amount of daily cigarette consumption also had no consistent effect on these measurements. However, functional residual capacity, residual volume, residual volume/ total lung capacity ratio and index of intrapulmonary gas mixing were tended to be greater on those the duration of smoking was longer.
